Technology Corner - eTrainingby Steven Sajous, Project Manager In an effort to improve the way the government interacts with citizens and businesses, the U.S. President, George W. Bush, proposed an E-Government initiative in 2002 calling for the use of improved internet-based technology to replace time and a paper intensive processes. This ambitious plan calls for an approach where the government uses available technologies to the fullest of their abilities to better serve users. One of the biggest successes of E-Gov so far is the eTraining initiative. This initiative aims to provide online training and course materials for government employees in an effort to maintain a highly skilled workforce capable of efficiently helping the agencies in advancing their missions. Although this program is still young—launched in July of 2002—the signs that it is already a success are apparent. The White House website reports that through its eTraining initiative over 840,000 Federal employees have registered for classes on the GoLearn.gov website and that over 2.7 million training classes have been completed to date. |
