ActioNet Has Top Notch Training Facility

by Michelle Joyce, Human Resources Generalist and Training Coordinator
Brandon Esterle, IT Support

ActioNet’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, houses a state of the art training facility. This facility is used for many purposes including new hire orientation, project management meetings, and guest and company hosted training courses.

The room can support up to thirty PCs with modular workstations that can be reconfigured based on training needs. Each PC has the ability to access the internet for virtual training and the room is connected to a T1 line allowing each computer fast data streaming. The PCs themselves are Dell’s from the Optiplex line. Each machine runs a fast processor with one gigabyte of memory able to run any application needed for training courses. Each workstation includes a 17” LCD slim design monitor providing ample workspace for each user. In fact, during a recent training course, one trainee noted that they had enough room for the 6 required course books, their notes, and elbow room at their workstation (while sitting next to a lefty!).

To further optimize the training experience, the PCs are configured to allow remote desktop connections to offsite terminals allowing the trainees to connect to computers around the world, as needed. The instructor terminal is connected to a high resolution projector mounted from the ceiling which allows for a large viewing area on a large pull down presentation screen.

ActioNet’s facility is particularly handy for customer training as it has both an independent access and ActioNet secured entries. This means that a class can be supported by ActioNet and its various facilities, or it can be entirely independent. If using ActioNet’s other facilities, meeting rooms for smaller breakout sessions, full kitchen, and phones are all available. The training facility is located adjacent to the kitchen, which is fully equipped with drinks, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, silverware, china, coffee and tea makers and supplies. The kitchen is a great place for a carry in lunch or for trainees to go for a quick snack break.

In June, Kevin Kocher, Principal Instructor with Education Services, Vignette® Corporation, a visiting trainer who travels all over the world teaching Vignette content management solutions courses, had this to say of ActioNet’s training facility:

“ActioNet’s training facility was exceptional for a company its size. Not many companies, in my experience, have devoted resources like this for training. This is a very positive sign that the company knows the value that training can bring to its organization. It was well equipped and the technical support was exemplary.”

ActioNet is always looking for new ways to use this facility, as it has already proved ideal for internal and external training sessions, informational presentations, and meetings.
